Enjoy a Day Trip to Charming Mevagissey

One of our favorite nearby villages to explore from Bay Tree Barn is the vibrant fishing town of Mevagissey, located just a 15-minute drive away. This historic harbor town makes for a wonderful day trip during your holiday at our Roseland cottage.

Start your morning off right with some baked goods from The Cornish Bakery, which our hosts highly recommend. This little bakery serves fresh loaves, buns, savory pasties, sweet treats, and their famous Portuguese custard tarts – the perfect way to fuel up before strolling around the harbor.

Mevagissey has loads of character with its winding alleys and streets lined with colorful cottages, shops, and pubs. Walk off those baked goods while wandering the harbor wall and taking in views of the fishing boats coming in with their daily catch. Keep an eye out for seals who sometimes come remarkably close seeking fish scraps!

Because it’s a working fishing village, Mevagissey offers excellent seafood restaurants where you can taste crab, lobster, halibut and more from the day’s catch. Check out Sharksfin, Salamander, or the Fisherman’s Chippy for fish and chips made with the freshest haddock from local fleets. There are also fun seafood pop-ups that are set up along the harbour – perfect for takeaway to picnic on the beach!

With its bites of history, coastal charm, tasty bakery treats, and abundance of ultra-fresh seafood, Mevagissey makes for a quintessential Cornish day out while staying at Bay Tree Barn. So take the quick drive over and immerse yourself in this lively fishing community during your holiday. Just don’t forget to grab a custard tart!
