Top Dog-Friendly Walks Near Our Cornish Cottage

Welcome to Bay Tree Barn! Lily and I are so pleased to host both you and your four-legged friend on holiday. We know how lovely it is to explore the Cornish countryside and stunning coastline with a pup by your side, so we wanted to share our favourite dog walks that are just short drives from our cottage.

Caerhayes Beach

One of the closest beaches to us is gorgeous Caerhays Beach, about a 15-minute drive. There’s ample parking and during the summer a charming beach cafĂ© serving everything from ice creams to a proper Cornish cream tea. Dogs are welcome year-round but must be kept on lead between 10AM-5PM of the school summer holiday weeks (a bit of a local tradition). Outside of those busy weeks, dogs can enjoy running free across the sand. Find tide info here before you go.

Pendower Beach

We absolutely love the Pendower/Carne beach area near Veryan and it’s only about 12 minutes by car. When the tide goes out this becomes one long stretch of sand – perfect for tiring out a playful pup! Both ends have cafes and parking, with cheaper rates if you park in the Pendower lot. Dogs are welcome year-round at Pendower but must be on lead during the school summer holidays at Carne. Beach details here.

Philleigh Way

Circular Walk If you fancy getting those legs stretched on a proper coastal ramble, the 6.5 mile loop of the Philleigh Way is fantastic. Just a 13 minute drive, it’s a marked route combining country lanes and footpaths with sweeping views of the Roseland coastline. Being circular, you can join it anywhere but we suggest starting in Ruan High Lanes to follow it clockwise. More on the route here.

Tregony Village Trails

For a quicker stroll near the cottage, the trails around Tregony village make for pleasant walks under a mile. Leaving Bay Tree Barn, turn right up the hill then take your first left onto the road marked “No Through Road”. Follow this lane passing Tregony Community Primary School and the village hall carpark on your right until you come to a crossing footpath marked on the left – this will take you through to the churchyard. Alternatively, continue along the no through road to pick up the riverside trail. Ask us for directions!

I hope this gives you some ideas to explore the area with your beloved pup. Let us know if you discover any other great dog walks nearby!

Wishing you many happy trails, Ollie & Lily
